There are quite a few ways to go about publishing our work. The two main options are traditional, old fashioned publishing by going to a company and submitting a sample of your work, and self-publishing, where you get to do it yourself. Both are valid, and both get your book on the shelf. There are also quite a few perks to self-publishing versus the old fashioned way. Getting published the traditional way can be a hassle. There are so many phone calls and emails that they can take up most of your time, by which point it might not feel worth it. Here is a short list of ways that self-publishing can be more beneficial than traditional publishing.

Less Time Consuming

As mentioned above, getting published the traditional way can take up a lot of time. There is a lot to the process. You have to make sure the companies you get in contact with are not frauds. You also have to check your email constantly. Not to mention waiting anxiously for a bunch of phone calls, making it even more frustrating. Self-published authors don’t have to go through all that because it is mostly done by the individual. You still have to look for a few emails, and possibly some phone calls, but it’s not as time consuming.

Easier and Quicker

In addition to being less time consuming, publishing your own work is easier in general. There are less steps to the process, and it is a lot less stressful because the author is really the only one who knows how they want things done. Therefore, it only makes sense for the author to also be their own publisher.

Less Contact With People

If you suffer from social anxiety, or just doesn’t like to talk to a lot of people, then publishing your own work is a good idea. Self-published authors don’t have to make too many frustrating calls. Not to mention, this way you won’t have to meet up with anyone to get the job done.

Quicker Money

When you are publishing your own work, you make money a lot quicker. No matter if you write 2-3 times a day, or once every week, when people like your work, you will get profits and money any time your book is sold. So you can comfortably write whenever you feel like it, based on your monetary needs. Another bright side is that you don’t have a word limit if you edit and publish your own work!

So, whether you like to write a chapter a day, or 2-3 books a month, publishing your own material is faster, easier, and more beneficial in the long run. Another good thing is that it doesn’t matter what kind of material you want published, because you don’t have to search far and wide for a company that is willing to let you hone your own creative skill! The best thing about all this is that you can always write wherever, whenever, however, and whatever your heart desires, and not have to worry about whether your publisher will approve, because your publisher is you!
